Visit of Dr Keith Jones |
Visit of Dr Keith Jones – Rector of the International Baptist Seminary, Prague. March 2009.
WBST welcomed another distinguished guest to lecture here in March.
Over recent years WBST has heard lectures from – among others – international guests such as Dr David Coffey, Pastor Tony Peck, Professor Graham Ashworth, Pastor Simon Woodman, Dr Richard Kidd, Dr Nigel Wright, Dr Ian Randall, Pastor George Boltniew, Pastor Michael Gott, Dr Peter Stevenson and Dr John Weaver.
Dr Jones lectured on What is a Baptist Church? He suggested that there are 6 core ingredients of Baptist Identity.
- 1) A concern to be true to the New Testament Church
- 2) A belief in covenant – relating well to God, each other, other Baptists and other Christians.
- 3) A convicition that Local Church Government is best.
- 4) The practice of Believers’ Baptism.
- 5) A committment to Mission
- 6) A healthy separation of Church and State.
In his lecture he reminded those present that Baptists are now the most geographically widespread international grouping of Protestant believers in the world. He also shared some experiences from his travels across Europe meeting, teaching and preaching to Baptists in many different contexts. The Baptist Church is like the vast international web he concluded – a Christian partnership of networks, friendships, worship, mission, service and prayer.
